Cross Country League Meeting 1, Rainton Meadows.
On 22nd October 2009 14 children from Years 4, 5 & 6 competed in our first of 6 meetings as part of our Cross Country League with 5 other schools (St. Michael’s, Houghton; St. John Boste, Washington; St. Joseph’s, Sunderland; St. Leonard’s, Sunderland and Sacred Heart, Newcastle) at Rainton Meadows.
The children competed in a relay competition between the 12 teams (6 A Teams and 6 B Teams). Each runner ran just over a mile in the competition.
The A Team were defending champions in this event and lay in second place through each of legs 1-5 with the team narrowing the gap created by a record breaking run by the St. Michael’s 1st leg runner Nathan Cobain (7:11).
On the final leg Tom Hockings overhauled the St. Michael’s runner and moved away to give us an emphatic 40 second victory.
The B Team performed admirably to finish 1st B Team and 6th overall.
Our fastest 3 runners were:
Sam Doherty 4th 7:56
Tom Hockings 7th 8:10
Joseph Shearer 8th 8:13
The next race is due to be held on December 3rd at Herrington Park where we hope to continue our great start to this cross country season.
