Teaching & Learning
Approximately 23.5 hours are spent each week on teaching. The remainder of the time in school is given to breaks, registration and assemblies.
The times of the school day are:
8:55am - 12:00noon (break 10:30am - 10:45am)
12:55pm - 3:20pm (break 2:10pm - 2:20pm)
We aim to offer our children a broad, balanced and enriched curriculum within the framework of the National Curriculum, which consists of the CORE subjects:- English, Mathematics, ICT and Science; and the FOUNDATION subjects:- Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music and P.E, Religious Education; French plus Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE).
Within the school we are working toward the DfES model of "Excellence and Enjoyment" which promotes high academic standard and curriculum enrichment through a variety of exciting learning opportunities for our pupils. The National Curriculum is designed to give each year group experience of the CORE and FOUNDATION subjects at a level suitable to age and ability.
Our philosophy in school is that learning is fun and learning is for life. There is more to education than reading, writing and arithmetic so we aim to 'enrich' a child's learning experiences by organising special weeks where the whole school will focus on a particular aspect or theme (European Week, Book Blitz, Science Slam!, Art Attack! Geography Journey, Hurray for History, etc.)
